Nursing is a challenging and evolving profession that offers a diverse variety of career paths and opportunities for professional growth. It is quite misunderstood when in fact, it does a lot more than most people would realise – doing more education, research and advanced practice roles.

This is over and above the more traditional roles of providing care for the sick, injured and disabled patients, and duties that include:

• assisting patients who are unable to care for themselves;
• carrying out medical and nursing treatments;
• observing, assessing and recording patients conditions and progress;
• developing and managing nursing care plans to help patients improve or maintain their health, and
• providing education to patients and their families.
