    Most AHPs work from 9am to 5pm, Mondays to Fridays. Some work on alternate Saturday mornings. AHPs who do on-call duties get extra remuneration.

    Profession Shift work requirements
    Physiotheraphy 8.00am to 5.30pm Mondays to Fridays /Tuesdays to Saturdays Physiotherapists are also scheduled for after office hours coverage (on-call) for critically ill patients.
    Occupational Therapy 8.00am to 5.30pm. Part-time work arrangements are also available. Some professionals are required to work on Saturdays.
    Diagnostic Radiography Radiographic imaging for patients is needed 24/7 in hospitals, especially in cases of emergency, therefore radiographers are rostered into 3 shifts from 8am – 2pm, 2pm – 9pm & 9pm – 8am for plain x-rays and CT scans.  Radiographers are also on call to respond to urgent requests.
    Radiation Therapy 8.00am to 5.30pm
    Optometry Office hours
    Speech Therapy 8.00am to 5.30pm. Part-time work arrangements are also available.
    Medical Social Work 42-hours work week. It might be necessary to meet patients’ families after office hours.
    Clinical Psychology Office hours
    Pharmacy Office hours
    Medical / Laboratory Technology

    Depending on which laboratory you work in

    • Core Laboratories (Haematology, Blood Bank, Biochemistry) in Hospital settings will need to provide
      24-hour service to support patient management. Medical Technologists in these areas will need to be rostered on shift duties that include weekends, evenings, night shifts and Public Holidays.
    • Most of the other lab disciplines adhere to office hours i.e. 8.00am – 5.00pm hrs.  Some labs have staggered working hours e.g. 11am to 7pm or 1.00pm to 9.00pm to cater for peak hour workloads. Medical Technologists  may be rostered for duty on Sundays & Public Holidays.
    • Medical Technologists in the local Polyclinic labs work from 8.00am-5.00pm.
    • Medical Technologists are required to be on standby for National emergencies or mass casualty recalls.
    Dietetics 8.30am – 5.30pm on Mondays to Fridays and 8.30am – 1.00pm on alternate Saturdays.
    Podiatry 8.00am till 5.15pm on Mondays to Fridays, covering 1 Saturday duty per month
    Prosthetics & Orthotics 8.00am – 5.00pm on Mondays to Fridays and 8.00am – 12.00pm on alternate Saturdays.
    Respiratory Therapy Office hours, but it will soon move to cover 24 hours in shifts.
